A Break

Posted on Thursday 4 May 2006

Thought I’d take a break from writing about things that annoy me for a while. Instead, I’d like to mention an album I discovered recently. It’s a soundtrack to a game called American McGee’s Alice and it’s rather good.

For those of you wondering, yes, that is Alice as in Alice In Wonderland, but no, it’s not a soppy girly game because there’s a nice evil twist on it. The music for the game is kind of haunting and really very good, it’s well worth the download buying legally.

Original American McGee's Alice box cover with Alice holding a knife.

I actually own this game, can’t remember exactly when I bought it, good few years ago though. The story behind the game is that one night at Alice’s house there was a fire, Alice was dreaming about wonderland, but then was awoken by her parents screams. Alice managed to get out, but her parents were trapped and burned alive. Overwhelmed with guilt, Alice retreated inside herself, became noncommunicative and was sent to a lunatic asylum. Alice then goes back to wonderland, but since it exists in her mind, it has become twisted and warped. The inhabitants have been enslaved by the Red Queen and there are many creatures trying to kill her. The metaphor is quite obvious, wonderland represents Alice’s state of mind, if she get’s killed then her mind will be lost forever, but if she battles through and destroys all the evil elements, wonderland will be restored and Alice can leave the asylum.

Here’s a lot more information about the game, Wikipedia really is awesome.

I simply can’t describe the music, words aren’t enough, please just give it a listen. If you still aren’t convinced then I don’t know what else to say, you’re obviously deranged, that’s just the way it is.

There is also some debate about whether the game will be made into a film. I really hope that it will be, not least because Sarah Michelle Gellar is favourite for the lead role. Unfortunately it seems there has been nothing but procrastination about it since the idea was first proposed all those years ago.

I hope the game is made into a movie, but now that Wes Craven has pulled out as the director i can see it being another BloodRayne 🙁 however, i agree about the music, i don’t have the soundtrack (yet) but i do vaguly remember it from playing the game oh-so long ago, also, i did like the Cheshire Cat from the game, from what i remeber he does say some funny and sometimes violent things 😀

Well, Bloodrayne was OK, it’s just that it could have been so SO much better.
